The Seminary Hill Association, or SHA, is a citizens association dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for our 5,000 members living in 2,000 homes located in the center of Alexandria and the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. We embrace positive change enthusiastically while working to preserve - and build on - the rich history, diversity, inclusiveness, and special nature of our area and our city.
Everyone living within our boundaries is a member - there are no dues or homeownership requirements. SHA's board works to improve the quality of life for those who live in the many single-family, townhouse and apartment neighborhoods in the Seminary Hill area. We address issues as varied as traffic congestion, development, open space, parks, schools, infrastructure, and threats to the environment. We are active in city issues and have become a leading voice for residents across Alexandria. SHA is also an active member of the Alexandria Federation of Civic Associations (AFCA), which represents about two dozen civic associations across the city. In fact, our immediate past president Carter Flemming is the current chair of AFCA.
SHA divides its territory into "areas," each of which is represented on the SHA board. See the list of reps here on the website and reach out to them with concerns or ideas. Our board includes representatives of our valued neighbors Virginia Theological Seminary and Episcopal High School. A representative from St. Stephen's & St. Agnes School is also invited to our meetings.
I urge you to come to one of our board meetings on the second Thursday of each month (except July and August) at 7:00 pm at 3606 Seminary Road (at the parish hall of the Immanuel Church on the Hill), and also attend our annual meeting on the second Thursday of November. Note that some of our meetings will be virtual only, so please check this site before planning to attend. All are invited, and we welcome your participation.
